My new sampled Kawai piano! Demo #1
 | For many years now, samplers have given us the ability to create a digital "replica" of an actual acoustic instrument that plays and sounds just like a great recording of the instrument. Pianos are certainly one of the most replicated sampled instruments, and with the advances made in software samplers, very realistic piano sounds are now attainable. But since the first day I got my Kurzweil K2500XS sampler, I realized it was more fun and rewarding to create my own piano sounds instead of using others. Also, I couldn't ever be happy with all the other sampled pianos I heard or bought. So here I am now starting on my 2nd software sampler piano library. I purchased Gigastudio 3 in summer of 2006 and went off to create my first piano sound with it. An older Steinway D at the University of Arkansas was the one I wanted! I finally got the piano finished in Gigastudio (only to find out Tascam was abandoning the software totally), and I've been happy with it for a while. But never to be at rest with my work, I wanted to do another piano. This time I'm doing a wonderful Kawai EX concert grand, and after I finish the Gigastudio version, I'll work on getting a Kontakt version available. So enjoy this little demo video I created. The Journey - Kawai K4, Korg Radias and Moog Slim Phatty - By Andy Barrow
 | Late night session on the Korg Radias and Kawai K4 Synthesizers. Second track was the Moog Slim Phatty for the bass line under the sequence of the Radias. I made use of the aftertouch on the Kawai K4 which allowed the Pad sounds to be filtered giving a nice sharp swell to the sounds. Then I switched from the pad sound to a nice Lead sound on the Kawai All played live into Logic 9 pro, adding the Moog Bass as a second track. Best listened to under Headphones Recorded using the Behringer Xenyx 2442 usb and making use of the built in Reverb and Echo effects. Both the Radias and Kawai have their own built in effects, adding to the overall sound. The Moog Bass was recorded onto a Mono track and I then added a Stereo Phase effect. Still waiting on the return of my Voyager XL....... Run Down on Equipment and what it is doing. Kawai MP6 Unboxing and Setup
 | After some problems with UPS, I finally got my MP6. This video is about the unboxing and inspection on arrival as well as setup. So far, I am pretty happy with this choice. No irregular key gaps or clicking keys. The feel of the keys are not too light; not too heavy. They just feel right in my opinion and the sound is very good. The ivory finish on the keys are flat gloss. I don't really care much about the wooden side panels. They have a hint of red and are more milk chocolate as oppose to dark chocolate in color. This digital piano is a little less than 50lbs. I got this keyboard from Kraftmusic.com. Ikuko Kawai - Instinct LIVE 2002
 | Ikuko Kawai (川井郁子Kawai Ikuko?), born January 19, 1968 in Takamatsu, is a classically trained Japanese violinist and composer. She has performed internationally, including invitational appearances with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and renowned conductor Chung Myung-Whun. Kawai Ikuko performed in New York at her first Carnegie Hall concert at Zankel Hall on October 4, 2008. Kawai has recorded numerous CDs and performance videos which have been released both in Japan and internationally. In addition to her work as a classical artist, she has worked in popular music with American artists of different genres, including Sheila E. and the Gypsy Kings. She has also appeared as an actress in a Japanese television series. Kawai Ikuko currently holds a professorship at the Osaka University of Fine Arts and Music. In honor of her artistry, Kuwai has been loaned the use of the University's 1715 Stradivarius violin. (The 1715 Stradivarius is known as one of the greatest works of Antonio Stradivari's "golden period".) She has also played a Francesco Ruggieri violin which was also loaned by Osaka University. Formerly, she played the Guarneri del Gesu (Muntz), loaned in grandis agnitio from the Nippon Foundation. |

Kawai K4 - Between Space and Time
 | To follow on from Voyage into the Unknown, this piece was performed purely on the Kawai K4 and recorded live (Multi Tracked) into Logic Pro. Using the built in effects of the K4 and then adding further effects and EQ in Logic. The main sound from the Kawai was programmed by myself using all four of the DCO's and creating an 'almost' analogue sound. The Kawai is quite a powerful synth and features Velocity and Aftertouch. 8 part multitimbral and built in effects. One nice feature of the K4 is you can delay one or all of the DCO's giving you an 'echo effect' in the case of this track, I used that feature to raise the delayed note by 1 octave. Changing the EG on both sets of DCF, DCA creating the sweeping synth - processed in Logic by adding stereo phaser. The rhythm was recorded live - so it has that 'rustic' or I should say 'Rusty - Very Rusty' feel to it. Again adding EQ and Echo Designer to that track in Logic helps smooth some of the appalling timekeeping on my part. This is a first draft of this piece. I am looking at adding additional Grunt to the bottom end with either the Slim Phatty and or the Voyager XL. Video footage is of my little studio before the Voyager XL Landed Hope you enjoy.
