Sunny played B3 Jazz Organ Style

I do not profess to be a B3 player - I'm still workin' on that left hand bass thing (you'll hear a few stumbles in this post). Nonetheless, every once in a while I like to put the B3 patch on and have some fun. Unfortunately, it's not all that easy playing a B3 patch on the weighted-action of the Roland FP-4, but it will have to do for now. I have "beefed-up" the internal Roland FP-4 organ patch #1 by adding a touch of the VSTi Organized (check it out here: freemusicsoftware.org This is a really nice VSTi and I like the way I can add overdrive to it. I also added a hint of ReaSynth VSTi that comes with the program Reaper to the left hand to give a little more bottom to the bass. I am playing to a drum loop created in Band-in-a-Box and using the chord progression from the tune "Sunny". I love the key of C Minor as you can probably tell by my heavy use of the C Minor pentatonic scale. There are a couple of other nice versions of this tune on YT and I drew inspiration from them, especially the nice effort by Robbie Benson and of course the killer version with Pat Martino, John Scofield and the great Joey D on the B3! Once again I owe a HUGE THANKS to Jamal at www.midikeys.com for providing the awesome MIDIKeyz software that shows the notes as I play them using the on-screen keyboard. A Midi file and PDF notation file of my solo and the drum loop backing track are all available on my website at http Thanks for listening!

2.Erroll Garner Playing Style (Jazz Organ Playing Technique)

Most of jazz organ players ( like Mr. Jimmy Smith ) typically use this kind of sound character, that is called "Erroll (Garner) Playing Style" with the certain setting of drawbars (Harmonic Bars). This was developed by Erroll Garner, a jazz pianist. Please have a look of the performance in this video. You will see such an original playing style and also listen to the typical organ sound and triplet notes heard in this playing style. Played by Atsuko Hashimoto. www.roland.com

Jazz Organ Summit Finale in Chicago

This was our Jazz Organ Summit in Chicago at the DuSable Museum of African American History. Charlie Earland produced this show and asked Jimmy McGriff and Lonnie Smith and Johnny Hammond Smith to join him. This was the last time Johnny Hammond Smith would ever play. He died eleven days after we did this show. Greg Rockingham is on drums and Bob DeVos plays guitar. The music from this night was released on Cannonball Records. Enjoy this because it represents a truly historic event for jazz organ fans. Visit my web site for more jazz organ clips: www.doodlinlounge.com Pete Fallico
