Cash for Clunkers- blowing up Cadillac Deville

the first one i had to do, it's terribly sad to have to do this but your left wing buddies say that i have to or $15k fine will be imposed. 1998 DeVille, very low miles, tight engine clearances, went quickly.

@SuperOffgrid I know how you feel. I can understand having small issues with a car, but the? headgasket problem was too much for me to handle. I wasnt sure what I needed to replace, so I messed it up and gave it back to the dealership. My plan is to purchase another Northstar next year or earlier 2014. I will be graduating from college soon, so this time I want a warranty with my Northstar. I want atleast a 2009 or 2010 DTS

Those of you who think we should keep are old Cadillacs around for your benefit at our expense: I trust you are keeping all of your old televisions, walkmans, nintendos, radios, 8 track tape players working and safely stored for the sake of preserving these valuable relics which are also a part of history. Don't forget fridges, stoves, mattresses,? drapes. telegraph keys, rotary dial phones, factory machinery. Does the dame logic not apply?

Nobody was forced to sell any cars under cash for clunkers, there are still plenty of old cars around. Cars went under this program because the owners would get more money for them than if they had sold them privately or traded them without the incentive. The? simple fact is these cars despite their good condition have little or no trade in value at ten years old. The owners are under no obligation to keep them forever so that somebody MAY want them for a few bucks decades later.

@abram7117 Mine was a total money pit after 85,000 miles. over 7 grand spent on the damn thing past that point, a.c. quit, load leveling system leaked, then alternator fried, at which point it was parked. Would have been a bad deal? for anybody who bought it used.

@Xziau1 Absolutely. I sent my 98 deville to the wreckers in Novmber 2011. Everybody squaks about it, yet in the last 3 years I had it, repairs were close to 7? grand. If they want these cars preserved, they should scour the countryside or cruise the dealerships on Mondays and pick up as many of the "classics" as they can. But no, I should have kept mine, maintained, preserved and stored it just in case they might want to buy it for 2 cents on the dollar, or just to please them. Good Lord!

That's a? damn shame....I would've loved to have that Caddy! That was definitely NOT a clunker! Damn government! lol

Gah,? this breaks my heart. Literally made me sick at my stomach!

This has sold tons of Kia's and Hyundai's. Get? over it. But, it does suck to see a Cadillac destroyed. OMG, I love Cadillacs. We all now get better gas mileage and, divorcing ourselves from decent cars boosted car sales like never before. Our car economy needed this boost, Fuck, save that cadillac horn. Google the sound.

Seems I cannot formulate an Opinion on this one. Anyways, I will be driving my 1990 Coupe Deville until the day the government throws me in jail for polluting the air with Carbon. AND IM A DECENTLY LEFT GUY! Then Again, Im no party registered and hate politics.....Sure green is good, and newer is usually better in masses, however, somethings are nice to keep around! I guess there arent to many 19 year olds who want to remember the 90's they where born in....and learn from the 60's? 70's and 80's.

To be fair to those who like first generation Chevy V8's, they are nearly infinitely rebuildable with a minimum of machine shop work, while a Northstar would need a whole lot of precision equipment. ? Also a Chevy 283, close to the Caddy's 4.6 litres, can match it's power with some common modifications, and be at least as reliable if it is balanced and blueprinted as well as a Northstar. The gas mileage might even be close if it had Arizona Speed & Marine sequential fuel injection.

The car sounded good and it seems a shame. Possibly it needed a $4000? transmission or had a mysterious coolant loss. People worship the first generation Chevy V8, but it's major advantage was it was cheap to build. The Northstar was one of the best engines ever built, but like anything had a maintenance schedule. The person who traded it in will have to live with his decision and experience the karma.

Complete bullshit. Nobody forced you to? give up your car. And if they did you rebel assholes always open your mouth about I'd do this and I wont put up with that didnt do anything. Not suprising you are a bunch of right wing cowards. Especially from the guy posting this. We call people like you bitch. I owned my 96 Deville till I moved. I never sold or was approched by anyone forcing me to sell.

how can this be allowed to happen? destroying good old cars so they can sell more new ones is more damaging to the environment than driving your old car, but most people dont have any active brain cells so they cant see this. this is a manifestation of our unsustainable consume and throw away? as much as possible economic system. this cadillac isnt even old wat the fuck are we doing? the people that are trading thier cars in are unthinking sheep. society is sick

@mustang6172 ur an idiot most people traded their car for a? fat c4c kickback but now have a car note = more credit +if they lose their job, then what more repo guys will be gettn hired and BTW hows ur economy now

@Polybun nstars are fast and? that gen deville rode very smooth they were poorly built 12-16cty_14-23mpg hwy depending on how u drive

@MegaGarrett07 true...the threads in? the engine block always pull out.

FUCK THE GOV... DONT? GET RID OF YOUR OLD CARS... DONT DO IT

Fuck? the government

@MegaGarrett07 I agree man. I am sure this one had a blown headgasket as well....No one throws away a perfectly good Cadillac. These people are complaining about blowing this fucking car up, but none of them would have tossed over 2 or 3 grand to? have it fixed..

...One of the reasons why older used cars with low mi are? going for premium prices now...

@LeeLee6006 It's more like "Cash for perfectly fine cars that we will kill so that no soul can touch? it later"

@Acuransx135 This is basic economics, people who can't afford a new car should be thankful for people who only want new cars since? they provide a supply of used cars. But some people choose to ignore the rules of economics and that's why we are in the economic mess we're in now.

shit i need that bumer and heat light for? my caddy .

Why? do you get fined?

I'm not sure if any one realizes this but these cars that were "clunkers" were THE MOST RECYCLED consumer item in the world. This is because people would privately sell them and a teenager would drive? the car to the ground or till it was totaled THEN it would go to a junk yard and be crushed and melted down and used for usage in another vehicle. Doing this means that a teenager or a lower class person who had the money to buy a "clunker" but not a new car no longer has that option.
